My Travel Diaries: I Made it to Morocco!

Hi Everybody!

Guess where I am at today?! That’s right… I am in Morocco!

I am checking another continent off of my list and visiting Africa for the first time. I have been wanting to visit Morocco for forever and I am so excited that I get to go on this trip with one of my favorite people to travel with, Kaitlyn! We met while in Croatia and she is so much fun.

My travel day today was long, a full 24 hours from when I arrived at the airport to when I landed. On the flight over I prepped myself for the trip by watching Aladdin. You probably think I am crazy but I have always imagined the movie taking place in Morocco, and I completely expect my trip to be just like the movie. I will end up marrying a “street-rat” with the heart of gold while defeating an evil Sultan all while my trusty tiger is by my side. I will also go on a magic carpet ride or two.

While I know that won’t happen (but oh my gosh what if it does?!), I do hope that Morocco is a lot like the movie in the cultural aspect. I want to walk markets and have to bargain for items and see an authentic almost grungy side to the country. I want to see how the locals live, I want to eat what they eat, and I want to learn all about the culture while also respecting it and the people.

I have been doing a lot of research and from what I have read online I am a little nervous to visit a country that is so different from what I am used to, but at the same time isn’t that the entire point of traveling? To get out of your comfort zone and learn about something new? Here is to hoping that I brought clothes that are appropriate and that over the next 10 days I will be able to dive deep into this wonderful country!

Bon Voyage!

The cities we will be visiting: Marrakesh, Aït Benhaddou, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Rissani, Erfoud, Midelt, Fes, Rabat, Casablanca

*Disclaimer: I have already returned from my trip, but couldn’t post due to connectivity/WiFi issues! So these diary entries are coming to you about 1 week late!
